Plastic Surgery in Asheville - Breast Reconstruction Plastic Surgery
Breast reconstruction is a procedure for women who have lost a breast to breast cancer from mastectomy. Breast reconstruction allows normal clothes to be worn without the need for external breast prostheses, which can be problematic. Breast reconstruction may be done either immediately at the time of mastectomy, or later following healing from mastectomy. Different and varied techniques for the surgical reconstruction of the breasts can be offered and customized to the patient’s desires and wishes. The anatomical defect, as well as the size and shape of the opposite breast may preclude or indicate one technique over another in considering breast reconstruction. Breast reconstruction is covered by health insurance and is in fact mandated by the State of North Carolina to be covered by all insurance companies, as well as treatment of the opposite breast.
